| Abstract | Measuring fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is a relatively new option for assessing allergic inflammation in the lungs. Clinical management of asthma is challenging, and measuring exhaled nitric oxide can provide another type of data to assist in meeting this challenge. FeNO is easy to perform, and the equipment is not forbiddingly expensive. FeNO provides a complement to traditional measures of asthma control and can help guide diagnostic and treatment choices. This article explains what it is, how the measurements are performed, what the norms are, and its use and limitations in the management of asthma. |
